Background of the Study:
Coastal urban settlements in Bonny face unprecedented challenges due to the multifaceted effects of climate change. Rising sea levels, increased frequency of extreme weather events, and coastal erosion have profound implications for urban planning, infrastructure, and community livelihoods (Ibrahim, 2023). These climatic shifts have led to disruptions in local economies, environmental degradation, and increased vulnerability of urban populations (Udeh, 2024). This study critically explores how climate change affects the resilience and sustainability of coastal settlements in Bonny, examining both the direct and indirect impacts on the built environment and socio-economic structures. Rapid urbanization in coastal regions has further complicated these challenges, as populations are forced to adapt to changing environmental conditions. The research investigates adaptive strategies and policy measures aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of climate change, emphasizing the need for sustainable urban planning and robust disaster management systems (Ekwueme, 2025). By integrating environmental science with urban studies, this study provides a comprehensive analysis of how climate change reshapes coastal urban life and proposes actionable strategies for enhancing resilience.
Statement of the Problem:
Coastal urban settlements in Bonny are increasingly imperiled by climate change, with rising sea levels and severe weather events undermining infrastructure and community safety. The lack of adequate adaptation strategies and disaster management protocols exacerbates these challenges (Ibrahim, 2023). Vulnerable populations face significant risks due to environmental degradation and economic instability, necessitating urgent policy intervention (Udeh, 2024).

Significance of the Study:
This study is significant as it highlights the urgent need for effective climate adaptation strategies in coastal urban areas. Its findings will assist policymakers in formulating resilient urban planning frameworks that safeguard communities (Ekwueme, 2025).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to evaluating the effects of climate change on coastal urban settlements in Bonny Local Government Area, Rivers State, focusing solely on environmental and infrastructural impacts within this locality.
